XBRL US Style Guide Open For Public Review

XBRL US has started a 90-day public exposure period for the XBRL US Style Guide, which was recently revised, updated, and released by the XBRL US Domain Steering Committee. The comment period began on April 17th and continues through July 17th. The Domain Steering Committee intends for the Style Guide to facilitate the creation of consistent, high-quality XBRL taxonomies by providing uniform guidelines and recommendations.

The Style Guide should be used as a basis for the naming styles of XBRL concepts, labels, and other components. When developing and updating XBRL taxonomies, this guide should be consulted along with the Taxonomy Guide, which is still under development by the Domain Steering Committee. Because the Taxonomy Guide will cover items such as instance document and taxonomy guides, resources, a history of XBRL, and business cases, these topics are not included in the Style Guide. Rather, the Style Guide focuses on language use for creating concepts and labels.

XBRL US Domain Steering Committee is seeking comment on: areas that are not currently covered in the Style Guide but should be (bearing in mind that these topics may be covered in the Taxonomy Guide), suggestions on the recommendations made in the document, and suggestions on any clarifications needed. XBRL developers, software providers, and other business professionals are encouraged to read the Style Guide and provide feedback. Please remember to indicate the numbered section of the Style Guide when submitting comments. To read and comment on the Style Guide, see this article at the XBRL US website.
