SEC Staff to Host Roundtable on Management of Public Companies and Other Regulatory Requirements

The SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance will be hosting a roundtable on July 18th at the SEC’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. This roundtable will allow investors, issuers, and other market participants to speak about the impact of short-termism on capital markets and whether the SEC’s reporting system (or other aspects of the SEC’s regulatory approaches) should be modified to address these concerns.


The agenda for this roundtable is as follows:

Panel One: Impact of a Short-Term Focus on Our Capital Markets

The panel will explore the causes and results of a short-term focus on capital markets and try to identify the potential market practices and regulatory changes that could encourage more long-term thinking and investment.

Shelley Parratt, Deputy Director, Division of Corporation Finance

Panel Two: Our Periodic Reporting System’s Role in Fostering a Long-Term Focus

This panel will emphasize specific changes that could be made to the SEC’s periodic reporting system that could foster a longer-term focus.

Moderators: David Fredrickson, Chief Counsel, Division of Corporation Finance

Luna Bloom, Chief, Office of Rulemaking, Division of Corporation Finance


A full speaker list will become available on the SEC’s website in coming days. The roundtable, which will be held at 100 F Street, N.E., Washington D.C., will be open to the public free of charge and will also be webcast live on SEC.gov and archived for later viewing. Those who wish to provide views on the topics covered by the roundtable may do so electronically via the SEC’s Internet Submission Form or through email to rule-comments@sec.gov.
