Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee to Discuss the SEC’s Capital Formation Proposal on May 8th

The SEC’s Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee will meet on May 8th, 2020 via video conference to discuss the SEC’s recent Capital Formation Proposal. This proposal offers amendments to simplify, harmonize, and improve certain aspects of the exempt offering framework. In addition, the Committee will continue its discussion that began on April 2 on how small businesses are coping with COVID-19 during the meeting. It will also share observations and perspectives from their areas of the marketplace.

The Small Business Capital Formation Advisory Committee was established to support the SEC with advice and recommendations on rules, regulations, and policy matters relating to small businesses. This includes issues relevant to both privately-held emerging companies and smaller public companies. The Committee has recently informed the SEC on a number of pertinent rulemaking and policy priorities, which provides valued marketplace feedback into the regulatory process. More information on the Committee, including its members, is available on the committee webpage.

The meeting will take place from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. EDT. It will be webcast live on SEC.gov and archived on the Committee’s webpage for later viewing. The agenda can be found here.

In addition, the SEC’s Office of the Advocate for Small Business Capital Formation is convening virtual coffee breaks to engage with the public on how COVID-19 is impacting raising capital. For more information on these events, see this post.
