SEC Introduces Game Show-Themed Public Service Campaign

The SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy has announced the launch of a game show-themed public service campaign entitled “Investomania” that is designed to help investors make informed investment decisions and protect themselves from fraud. Drawing on the idea that investing may sometimes seem like playing a game, the campaign reaffirms the need for investors to take proper precautions when making investment decisions.

The light-hearted public service campaign is aimed at:

  • encouraging investors to carefully explore investments and obtain information from reliable sources to understand risks prior to investing
  • reminding investors to utilize the free financial planning tools and information on Investor.gov, the SEC’s resource for investor education

As the number of investors in the financial markets increases, so has the importance of investors taking time to do their due diligence concerning investment opportunities. Since its launch in 2009, Investor.gov has provided accurate and unbiased investment information that helps investors decide how to invest in their future and recognize and avoid fraud.

The whimsical campaign includes the following useful media and tools:

  • one 30-second TV spot designed to show investors the consequences of their investment decisions and to help investors understand the importance of protecting themselves when making investment decisions
  • three 15-second informational videos on crypto assets, margin calls, and guaranteed returns
  • interactive quizzes for investors to test their investing knowledge

For more information about “Investomania”, visit the campaign’s webpage on Investor.gov.
