XMLParseGetSpace Function

Overview

The XMLParseGetSpace function returns any leading space associated with the last parse action.

Syntax/Parameters

Syntax

string = XMLParseGetSpace ( handle hXPO );

Parameters

hXPO

A handle specifying an XML Parse Object.

Return Value

Returns a string containing the space characters preceding the last parsed item or an empty string on failure. Use the GetLastError function to retrieve error information.

Remarks

Spaces count as word spaces (0x20), tabs (0x09), line feeds (0x0A) and returns (0x0D). Unless within CDATA or a preformatted area, normally all white space between items is treated as a single word space. The XMLParseHasLeadingSpace can be used to determine if there is space, or this function can be used as tested for non-zero.

Note that spaces do not count as part of an item’s position. The only way to determine the space position is to track the ending position of the previously parsed item and then capture the start position of the current item.
